Take Your Sailing to the Racecourse

Ready to turn your sailing skills into race-winning strategies? The ASA Racing Class at Puget Sound Sailing Institute is your gateway to competitive sailing. In this course, you’ll learn essential racing theory, rules of the road, and the technical finesse needed to sail faster and smarter. You'll not only practice sail trim and strategy but also compete in the TTPYC 2025 Spring Series—putting your skills to the test in real race conditions.

PSSI will have two race boats entered in the TTPYC 2025 Spring Series.

  • Mark rounding and right-of-way rules

  • Team communication and coordinated maneuvers

  • Rules and regulations of sailing competition

  • Racecourse layout and start-line strategy

  • Upwind and downwind tactics

  • Sail shape, trim, and performance tuning

Sailing Skills You’ll Learn

  • Participation in four races

  • One evening classroom session

  • Two evening on-the-water training classes

  • Race boat usage and coaching

  • All required race gear and safety equipment

Prerequisites

  • ASA 101 and ASA 103 certifications

  • Ability to demonstrate sailing competency

  • If certified outside PSSI, provide your ASA number to confirm eligibility
