Why Combine ASA 104 and ASA 114?
Most charter fleets today are heavily multihull based, but many cruising sailors still operate monohulls. The handling characteristics, systems management, and docking strategies are different.
This course prepares you for both.
Over three consecutive days and two nights aboard, you’ll rotate through monohull and catamaran training, gaining firsthand experience with:
Keelboat heel management and sail balance
Catamaran twin-engine maneuvering
Docking strategies for narrow and wide-beam vessels
Anchoring best practices for each hull type
Passage planning and coastal navigation
Provisioning and multi-day trip logistics
Crew leadership and onboard decision-making
Emergency preparedness and safety management
What’s Included
This is a true liveaboard program. You’ll provision, plan routes, stand watch, dock in unfamiliar marinas, and manage onboard systems as conditions evolve.
On the monohull, you’ll focus on sail balance, heel management, and auxiliary systems integration. On the catamaran, you’ll refine twin-engine docking, wide-beam maneuvering, and multihull anchoring dynamics.
By the end of the course, you’ll understand the operational differences between vessel types and be qualified to skipper either with confidence.
