ASA 105 - coastal navigation

What to expect
This course is available in a convenient workbook and instructional DVD offered by ASA that you can watch in the comfort of your own home. You can purchase the home study package from ASA and schedule your 4–5-hour exam (in Tacoma) with us as ASA requires the exam to be proctored by an ASA chartered school. Our proctoring fee is $50 and included in that price is e-mail and phone support provided by Mike Rice.

ASA 106 - advanced coastal cruising

This means that after this class, you will be a master of sailing during the day and night with new knowledge of radar and electronic chart navigation on a 43'+ yacht.

What to expect
This class is held over a full weekend - 48 hours on board with one instructor and up to five students. Hours of class are 5pm on Friday to 5pm on Sunday. As this is an overnight class, you will be sharing a stateroom with a person of the same gender or the person you signed up with. This class includes textbook, ASA certification, provisioning, and 48 hours aboard the yacht.

What to expect
This trip is held over 7-10 days. The course typically starts and ends with coastal sailing and navigation review. In the middle are 4 days/3 nights intensive, continuous offshore sailing. Everyone will partake in day/night watches with time for celestial shots. Onboard will be two instructors (Mike Rice and one of his handpicked instructors) and up to six students. You will be sharing a stateroom with a person of the same gender or the person you signed up with. Class includes ASA certification (if prerequisites are met), provisioning and 7-10 days of continuous instruction.
Locations and Prerequisites
To achieve certification, you must have ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, and 106 prior to taking this class. If the class is on a catamaran, you must have ASA 114. Before 108 can be awarded, 107 certification must be achieved.

This class is held over a full weekend - 31 hours on board followed by a one-hour exam. Class is 9am on Day 1 ending at 5pm on Day 2. With one instructor and up to five students. As this is an overnight class, you will be sharing a stateroom with a person of the same gender or the person you signed up with. This class includes textbook, ASA certification, provisioning, and 32 hours on the yacht.
