OVER 110 ASA 101 Keelboat 1 Classes Scheduled
This Basic Sailing class is designed to teach you the essentials of sailing a small keelboat in familiar waters and light winds. After completing the Keelboat 1 course, you will feel confident enough to skipper your own small (20 to 27'), tiller-steered keelboat in light to moderate winds, in familiar waters, during daylight hours.
Before your scheduled class, we offer an online sailing course (included in your tuition) to help prepare you for the ASA 101 Keelboat class. This course introduces key sailing fundamentals, including essential terminology, safety practices, and the mechanics of sailboats. Even if you’ve never set foot on a boat, you’ll gain an understanding of how sailboats harness wind power to navigate.
Class runs TWO consecutive days from 9:00am to 6:00pm, on both days.
This class has 'Pre-work' required by you to complete before attending class.

Learn to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered (inboard or outboard engine) keelboat of 25 to 35 feet length by day in moderate winds (up to 20 knots) and sea conditions. Knowledge of cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather interpretation, safety, and seamanship.
Prerequisite: ASA 101 rating
and the ability to demonstrate competencies in all knowledge and skills elements of that Standard.

Classes start at noon on day one and end at noon on day 5. You will take both the 103 and 104 sailing courses during your sail. There will be one instructor and a maximum of four students. As this is an overnight class, you may be sharing a stateroom with a person of the same gender or the person you signed up with if you paid the double-occupancy price. This class includes: two textbooks, two online lectures, ASA certifications, provisioning, and five days of instruction. Transportation to and from Anacortes Cap Sante Marina is not included. An airporter shuttle from SeaTac drops you off near the marina.

Able to skipper a sailing vessel on extended offshore passages requiring celestial navigation. Knowledge of long-term passage planning, offshore vessel selection, sail repair, offshore first aid, watch-keeping, emergency procedures, abandon ship protocols, safety and seamanship.

Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing, Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Chartering and Coastal Navigation, Advanced Coastal Cruising, and Celestial Navigation certification.

ASA 111 Basic Keelboat Refresher
The ASA 111 Basic Keelboat Refresher provides a review of key skills covered during ASA 101, Basic Keelboat 1. As with Basic Keelboat 1, this course’s focus is on sailing a basic keelboat of up to 26 feet in length in light to moderate winds (up to 15kt). The course is appropriate for those who, while perhaps having recently completed Basic Keelboat 1, desire additional practice, or those for whom a significant amount of time has lapsed since they last sailed. Skills covered include sailing theory, docking and departures, points of sail, sail trim, tacking, jibing, and figure eight crew overboard recovery.
