In March, 1985, Mike Rice started Puget Sound Sailing Institute with the intent of
founding one of the best and most diverse sailing schools on the West Coast.
Twenty-three years later, Mike’s dream has become a reality as PSSI teaches courses in
both SEATTLE and TACOMA.

Over 7000 students have been taught. PSSI has won ASA School of the Month. Mike
has won ASA Instructor of the Year Awards six times. Over 25,000 additional nautical
miles have been logged, including two Offshore Classes from Hawaii to the West Coast.
And, Mike has led sailing vacations in Tahiti, Sea of Cortez, Pacific Northwest, Bahamas,
Greece and numerous locations in the Caribbean. However, Mike is not one to rest on his
laurels. “I continue to look for new and better ways to share my love of sailing with
others,” he says.
